The Constitution provides for Armies but not for longer than 2 years, in Article 1 Section 8. So, by extension, a standing Army is unconstitutional.
The Constitution does provide in the very next clause for maintaining a Navy (and probably by extension an Air Force), with the clear design for protecting our coasts but not having an occupying force at anyone's hand.
Instead of a standing Army, the Constitution provides for state militias.
This glorifying of anyone who's ever served in the federal military and brainwashing any person into thanking a person for his military service is part of the squeeze that puts people into the position of not questioning what the state does with this standing military force that the Constitution put strict limits on in the first place.
